History

Michigan Beta was the eleventh Chapter of Tau Beta Pi to be established. It was installed on August 6, 1904 at Michigan Technological University, Houghton, Michigan. Since that time, over 3600 individuals have been initiated into the Michigan Beta Chapter.

The Chapter's first purpose is to "mark in a fitting manner" engineering students of distinguished scholarship and exemplary character. Tau Beta Pi chapters are also responsible for encouraging a spirit of liberal culture in the engineering college. Michigan Beta has taken several projects over the years to that end.

Michigan Beta is one of the chapters in District 11, one of the geographic divisions of Tau Beta Pi. The collegiate chapters have a district as well as a national convention each year. Through the district program, our students work with the national organization more closely and have expert help at solving chapter problems.
